This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Robert Masotti, who was born in New York on June 30th, 1948 and passed away on March 27nd, 2004 at the age of 55.
Robbie was the youngest boy of four children born to Esther and Arthur. He was born and raised in da Bronx, New York! He attended Our Lady of Grace catholic school and Cardinal Hayes High School. As a very young teen, he developed a religious calling, and at the age of eighteen, left home to become a Franciscan brother. Robbie became a teacher after finishing a degree in philosophy. He remained a Franciscan all his life and taught for over 30 years.
Robbie last taught at St. Mary, Star of the Sea, on City Island, which is a great school. He was the 8th grade teacher for a good many years. He was somewhat of a legend in that school, being known mostly for his antics as the dean of discipline. Robbie got up every morning at 5:30am to begin his day, but mostly to take his meds so that he could get in to school to teach. He loved teaching. It was the teaching that kept him alive and going. And it was his family as well.
To Robbie, the family was what counted the most. He cared very much about his parents, his brothers, his sister and his nieces and nephews. He was not the most huggy-kissy person, but he was always concerned about the well being of his family members and friends. And his pets...well, he really was a Franciscan. Robbie used to carry peanuts, dry cat and dog food in his car trunk. He would feed strays and squirrels everywhere.
At the end, Robbie passed away at Calvary Hospital, where our dad also died. He was so very ill. He did not want to leave us and he fought for three months. On his last night on earth, he was surrounded by his brother, sister, brother-in-law, niece, nephew and cousin. We had to tell him that it was okay to go. And for once, he did listen (he was also pretty stubborn).
We will remember him forever.

Laughter There is one thing that Robbie left us and that is with a whole lot of memories about laughing...laughing, laughing, laughing!!! No matter how sick he was, we could find something to laugh at. When he had a brain tumor, he named it , "Nancy", and we referred to it by it's proper name. He could just somehow conjure up something funny to try to help himself and help others cope with the immense sadness about his illness. |
